WICHITA, Kan. – More than 75,000 South Central Kansans live in poverty and rely on service organizations like Bread of Life Distribution Center, Inc., to make it through the month with food on the table. As that number increases, Bread of Life sees a rise in demand for its services. In order to provide assistance to those people in need, Bread of Life accepted a $20,000 gift from Cargill to help construct a new, larger distribution facility.
“Cargill’s commitment to nourishing the people of our city and neighboring towns is one we can all learn from,” said Herb Hudson, executive director, Bread of Life Distribution Center, Inc. “The new building will enable us to serve an additional 10,000 people each year and provide them with more nutritious meals.”
The 11,250 square-foot distribution center will be built in the 1200 block of East Galena, near South Hydraulic Street and Interstate-135.
“Bread of Life is a great organization that provides a wonderful service for members of our community,” explained Alan Smith, vice president of risk management, Cargill and Cargill Cares committee member. “Cargill is proud to provide Bread of Life with this gift to better help those people in our area who need assistance.”
