WICHITA, KS -- Excel Corporation, which is based here, has announced that it is in the process of kicking off its new ground beef marketing program entitled "32°F Makes A Difference - Excel Guarantees It!"

The program guarantees customers that Excel ground beef chubs will arrive at their place of business at a verified temperatures of 32°F or less. Excel is the first and the only company in the meat-packing industry to make this guarantee.

Excel makes this guarantee based on its investment in chub-chilling equipment that is specifically designed to take ground beef to the 32°F point and maintain it at that all-important temperature.

"Many of our case ready customers who buy ground beef will only buy it from suppliers with chub chillers," says Bob Blanton, Excel Ground Beef Marketing Manager. "They know the value first hand - better color retention and lower micro counts which results in better performance in the display case."

As part of the program kick off, Excel ground beef customers will receive a "32°F Makes A Difference - Excel Guarantees It!" brochure and a cooler. The cooler contains a mock chub, a stick pin that reads 32°F and a laminated page on 32°F cold chain management.

Says Blanton, "We did two studies at Excel Research and Development on the effects of storage and display of fresh ground beef at 32°F, 40°F and 48°F. The results show that good cold chain management aids in inhibiting microbial growth which is a significant step in fighting food-borne illness. To add additional weight to the in-house study, Excel commissioned Kansas State University to do an even more detailed study which verified completely these same results."

Other investments Excel has made to guarantee 32°F include prechilling trailers to specific temperatures and carefully monitoring loading techniques.
